Pride Winnipeg
I've volunteered at the last couple Pride Winnipeg events in 2023 and 2024. I felt like I needed to support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in a way that was doable for me throughout the busyness of being a student. I was able to help the weekend long event run smoothly by helping with volunteer registration, sorting merchandise in the merch tent, serve drinks in the beer tent and deliver swag to the designated accessibility area during the pride parade.
Coming Out
Pride Winnipeg 2023 is particularly special to me because it was when I felt empowered to come out to my family and friends on social media. I had recognized I was bisexual a couple years before then but because I was in a straight relationship I didn't feel it was necessary to announce this sooner. However, I wanted to make an impact on my circle to help bring awareness to the community and utilize my privilege of having mostly supportive friends and family and country to encourage acceptance since many in the community still face homophobia and transphobia.
